Calvary Chapel Inglewood began in the living room of an Inglewood home as a group of childhood friends came together as men to learn about God and grow in their relationship with Him. As the gospel was shared, scriptures studied, and lives transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, God established Calvary Chapel Inglewood in May of 2010.

God’s faithfulness continues to overflow towards us as He adds to His church body, strengthens believers of all ages through discipleship in His Word, and sends us out to impact our community and world for His glory.

Pastor Bill Buffington was born and raised in Inglewood. After accepting Christ at the age of 19, an appetite for God’s word and His people quickly began to spring up within him. While attending Bible college and serving on staff at Calvary Chapel Downey, God impressed on his heart the need for solid Bible teaching in the inner-city and called him to serve as Senior Pastor of a new church plant, Calvary Chapel Inglewood.  Pastor Bill desires to share the gospel with the unsaved, see lives transformed by Jesus, and extend beyond Inglewood to impact the world.

He and his wife, Meka Buffington, have been married for over 20 years and have 4 children.  Pastor Bill and Meka have served together in ministry for more than 25 years.  In addition to serving together at Calvary Chapel Inglewood, the Lord has given them the privilege to minister to families affected by special needs at Joni & Friends Family Retreats, provide Bible-based marriage counseling, and disciple other believers.

We believe the Bible, Old Testament and New Testament, to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and the inerrant Word of God. Men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:21 ).  (Learn More about the Bible)

We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit equal in power, authority and glory. (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).

We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:34-35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His substitutionary and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); His bodily resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11-13, Revelation 19:14-16; His continuous intercession for believers (Hebrews 7:25). We believe that He was fully human and fully God (Colossians 2:9).

We believe in the Holy Spirit who regenerates (Titus 3:5-6, John 3:5-8) and indwells every believer in Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:16; 6:9, 2 Timothy 1:14, Romans 8:11)  assures us of our salvation (1 John 3:24, Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30), guides us into all truth (John 16:13), glorifies Jesus (John 16:14), and convict us of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). He comforts us (John 14:16-21), gives us spiritual gifts, and empowers us for service (1 Corinthians 12:11, Acts 1:8).

We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and that they are proven valid for today if they are exercised within Scriptural guidelines. We, as believers, are to covet the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in love so that the whole body of Christ might be edified. We believe that love is more important than any spiritual gift, no matter how impressive it might seem, and without love, all worthless. (1 Corinthians 12-14)

We believe all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of the human nature, and that all are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ, and that only by God’s grace through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16-19; John 5:24, Romans 3:23;Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of life (heaven), and those who are not unto the resurrection of damnation (hell) (Matthew 25:46, Luke 23:43. John 5:28-29; 14:2, Romans 2:6-8, Revelation 20:10; 21:8).

We await the pre-tribulation rapture of the church, and we believe in the literal Second Coming of Christ with His saints to rule the earth, which will be personal and visible. This motivates us to holy living, heartfelt worship, committed service, diligent study of God’s Word, regular fellowship, participation in adult baptism by immersion and Holy Communion. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

We believe in the universal church, the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith in the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him, obeying Him and bringing the gospel to the world (Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28).

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church: 1) baptism, and 2) the Lord’s Supper. We believe in baptism by immersion and communion, both of which are open to all believers in Jesus Christ.
